Weather

Weather played havoc on our trip. The Alaskan cruise turned into a Sea Cruise as we have seen more of the ocean than any bit of Alaska. The last port of call had been cancelled because of weather. What we saw of Alaska can be summed up in two things, Juneau and Glacier Bay.

Are we disappointed? Yes. Are we grateful for the things we did experience? A resounding YES.

The glaciers fascinate me to no end. Their appearance can be dirty due to the grinding of the rock as the ice compresses and travels. But that same process creates some of the purest blue in the ice you will ever see.

My only regret is not having the forethought to visit these wonders decades ago, when they seem everlasting. Seeing them today is fraught with a mixture of awe and pity as the snow and ice are dirtier and the blue duller.

Nature in itself is ever changing, whether through forest fires or climate change. We as humans are not the main priority for we are all a part of nature as any other creature and living thing. I don’t know the future of this planet for it will not last as physics dictates its demise.

What I do know is we should all enjoy it while we have it, whether it be a waterfall at the end of a hike or a beautiful sunset on a pristine beach. Got out of the house, lose the screen time, and explore and maybe, just maybe you will realize that there is something out there to preserve.
