Candles

Candles date back many centuries and their primary purpose was to light homes, to aid travelers at night, and for religious ceremonies. Today, they are mostly used for their scent and maybe when the power goes out.

I did a bit of research on candles which lead me to the National Candle Association. According to the NCA, sales of candle products are a multi-billion dollar a year business. With 35% sold around the holidays.

Scents are the most important factor in purchasing a candle and it seems there are more than 10,000 to choose from, include those of alcoholic spirits like whiskey, wine, and microbrews. And with cannabis being more available and popular due to some of the states making it legal, the scent of marijuana has become a trend. Along with that is a trend for a smell that will mask the scent of marijuana. Scientists believe five percent of our DNA is devoted to olfaction, making our sense of smell very important.

Creative people being creative have used candle wax to a next-level art form.

Here is one of a sleeping women made by the A.F. Vandevorst fashion design house.

Along with this, is a statue of realistic looking people that have been encapsulated in melting wax. This was done by artist Jane Moseley.
