Light A Path Between Past and Present

Near the Dutch town of Eindhoven during the daytime, you can stroll or ride a bike down an unremarkable path. But at night a whole new experience emerges.

Artist Daan Roosegaarde created a glowing path from solar-powered LED lights that pays homage to Vincent Van Gogh’s “Starry Night”. At about a half-mile, it was opened on the 125th anniversary of Van Gogh’s passing. Although Van Gogh only lived in Eindhoven for a few years, he used the town as some of the backdrops for his paintings.

I’ll let Mr. Roosegaarde tell you the rest in his own words as he wanted his work to speak to everyone. This is what he said, “You have people who are interested in technology to make landscapes which are energy neutral. You have people interested in cultural history and experiencing it in a contemporary way. You have boys and girls who have a first date and want to take their date to a special place.” He continues, “You have an artist like me who wants to create something just incredibly poetic; and all that comes together. A good project generates new stories.”
