On Board Alaska

The process of vacation always starts with meticulous planning and a lot of worry. In today’s world, a bit of extra thought is needed. With COIVD and the pre-requirements just to board a cruise ship, a tremendous sigh of relief is experienced once settled into the cabin. This is really the start of a vacation and relaxation can begin.

For our Alaskan Cruise this past week, on board the Princess Majestic, its crew helped ease the worry and planning by providing cordial greetings, answering questions, and easing the worry of travel in a pandemic atmosphere. As one crew member stated, “You’re on vacation. We will take care of everything.”

Weather impacted our schedule. Instead of a night sail toward our destination, high seas have forced an A.M. departure. Due to this delay, the ship had lost the Skagway port of call. As this is the last voyage to Alaska and winter fast approaching this was not unexpected.

The ship has modernized the experience and had added luxury to the comfort of the passengers. To maintain some semblance of social distance, private nooks are located throughout the decks. For example, the indoor pool area contains small two-person cabana tents.

Surprises around the different decks are not only well planned but inspiring. The “Wishing Wall” has this quote scrolled across the top, “Making a wish is the first step to having your dreams come true.” Below are several flip-up panels with writable surfaces beneath where passengers can write their wishes. The panel I opened contained a wish seemly made by a child if any indication can be made from the handwriting. It read, “Please make Mom smile today.”

Indeed, I hope Mom smiled the whole week.
