Oscar Wilde

“Experience is simply the name we give our mistakes.”

Today I came across some quotes from Oscar Wilde. Last year we visited Dublin, Ireland where Oscar Wilde was born. His home is now the Oscar Wilde Centre, at Trinity College which we also visited.

“To love oneself is the beginning of a life-long romance.”

Looking at his list of works, I haven’t read any but The Picture of Dorian Gray has interested me for some time.

“Women give to men the very gold of their lives. But they invariably want it back in such very small change.” from The Picture of Dorian Gray

The Oscar Wilde Memorial Sculpture is a collection of three statues in Merrion Square in Dublin. One of Oscar reclining on a boulder of quartz and two pillars on each side. These pillars hold some of the quotes attributed to Wilde. Sculpted by Danny Osborne the statue was formed from different colored stones from three continents.

I’ve included here some of the quotes I liked and also some of the pictures we took while in Dublin.

“The truth is rarely pure and never simple.”

“No man is rich enough to buy back his past.”

“The world is a stage, but the play is badly cast.”
