Seeing Double or Deal With The Devil

Brilliant and artistic people are simply brilliant and artistic. Take the “Double Statue of Mephistopheles and Margaretta,” located in the Salar Jung Museum in India. The sculpture is comprised of wood carved from a single sycamore.

One side is of Mephistopheles who was a demon in German folklore and has appeared in literature and plays. He is the guy you make “a deal with the devil” with. The other is of Margaretta.

The book Faust, published in 1808, is your classic good versus evil tale. Faust makes a deal with the devil but it ends with murder after he falls in love with Gretchen (Margaretta). The narrative of the book is displayed in the sculpture done by an unknown French artist.
